May - National Foster Care Month - Events

National Foster Care Month

This month raises awareness about the challenges faced by young people transitioning out of foster care and identifying the necessary support to enhance their outcomes. Each year, nearly 370,000 children in the United States are in the dependency court and foster care systems because of experiencing abuse or neglect. A child in foster care, on average, will move into multiple homes and attend multiple schools. CASA not only advocates for children and youth within the court, child welfare and school systems, but also form connections with them that can last for years. Many young people who age out of the foster care system will maintain a relationship with their (CASA) volunteer into adulthood.
